The Anawangin Cove- Capones Island Hopping

10.23.13

After our Sagada Trip last February of 2012 we decided to spent our summer in Zambales on April of the same year. My friend Shiela coordinate with the tourist agency named Pinoy Caravan to help us out to organize the tour. This would be the first time that we will experience beach camping, except for Shiela since she was already visited the place with some other group and Im seeking for an adventurous getaway that summer she recommended it anyway and of course YES for that!!

Anawangin Background:

Pristine and secluded, the beach of Anawangin Cove is fast becoming a popular destination near the Subic, Zambales area.  The cove are surrounded by pine trees (which was not usually seen in other beaches in the Philippines) and carpeted by volcanic white sand from Mt Pinatubo's eruption. The sand turns grey once it get wet but a pearly white sand will emerge under the sun's light that would like create a winter scene. The sand is fine but as not as fine in Boracay but the shore is wide enough to do beach volleyball or Frisbee and it is really ideal for swimming.

According to the locals, the name Anawangin is derived from the Ilokano word 'nuang' means carabao (I do research hehehe), because of the wild carabao roaming around the cove specially in the sloped areas. There is a small store which you may find your basic necessities and if its summer HALO-HALO is the ultimate thirst quencher. You may also find shower rooms (don't expect that it is clean as Beach hotels). I am not sure where they pumped the water but they have this big container drum and motor that will pumped the water out and the locals used chemicals (chlorine, bleach) to neutralize the water. There are also nipa huts in the cove that you may rent on. It's an ideal beach camping with Pine Trees at your background.

The Trip:
Since we coordinate with Pinoy Caravan they are the one who manage our itinerary, transpo (land and sea transfer), camp meals, island hopping (capones island) under a Php 2,200 budget.

Pinoy Caravan meet us at 2am in SM Megamall together with other group. In our van, we are in 3 groups. And there is only one person that keeps talking all throughout the trip while others trying to get some sleep since the travel is so early and we are all not in the mood to converse with each other.

We reach Zambales at around 6am and we stopped by for a quick breakfast in Mcdo. And chi-chat with other groups :)

As we arrived in Brgy Pundaquit, the Pinoy Caravan settle all our things to their Private Boat.
It is a 30-45mins boat ride from Brgy Pundaquit.

As you reach the shoreline of Anawangin cove, you will welcome by the long white sand and Pine trees on the campsite. Oh and one more thing there's no electricity in the area, so you should bring your own flashlight.

Welcome aboard!!! (Shiela, May, Abeth)

We took this picture  while the staff of Pinoy Caravan start fixing our tents

 The Campsite

They provide us 1 tent that's good for 4 person. It's actually a big tent. Then we took our heavy lunch in courtesy of Pinoy Caravan cooking master.

On late afternoon we decided to check-out the cove. We headed to the hill where you can see the 360 view of the Anawangin Cove.

River trekking way to the hill. Since it is summer the deepest part is just below the knee.

How awful they cage them up. These are not pets people!!!

A 30mins boat ride to Capones Island where you'll find the Light House.

The rocky shore of Capones Island. There are also fine sand on the other side of the island where you can do an overnight beach camping but you need to trek for about 1.5-2 hrs just to reach the light house.

The Philcoa. Thank you for accompanying us :).

Inside our tent. Ready to pack.

Oh I forgot!!! Pinoy Caravan also provide snacks during our stay in Anawangin. At night we have socials and they provide beers and hard drinks with matching marshmallow over a bonfire with a relaxing background music and of course party music as well.
